A Cup Of Inspiration – Volume 4

The other day I had the Monday-ist Wednesday that you can ever imagine!

It started from the moment I got out of bed and I eventually cancelled my plans to work on a refinishing project for a friend, because I needed a mental health day!

I literally made myself a cup of fresh coffee at one point…..WITHOUT the mug under the Keurig spout! Oh yes, I did!

I found out really fast that it was a VERY good idea that I had left the top to my coffee nook cabinet removable. It really helped with the cleanup.

Anyways….glad that day ended.

Eventually!

For today I checked SEVERAL times to make sure I had a mug under the spout before making my coffee for our weekly coffee date! I’m not going to make that same mistake twice. I hope.

As for the things I wanted to share with you this morning, I can’t help it. I tried and tried but I couldn’t resist sharing all the fall things I have been seeing EVERYWHERE!

You’re welcome.

I mean, have you ever seen such elegant pumpkins?

I’ve made fabric pumpkins before but haven’t made velvet ones yet. I don’t know why because they’re pretty much my all-time favorites but probably because I don’t have scrap velvet fabric laying around and I’ve been using up scrap fabric.

After looking at how these are embellished though I’m thinking a trip to the fabric store is in order….

Okay here I go again with the velvet pumpkins but hear me out! I got so excited to make everything in my house a fall DIY after reading KariAnne’s post. She shares 10 things you probably already have in your home that you can use for (or turn into) fall decor. It’s a must read.

The weather is still great for entertaining outside. Not too cold but we can get away with some fall decor in our table settings and I love some of the ideas from onekindesign.com for outdoor fall tablescapes.

I know salads with fruit in them aren’t everyone’s cup of tea (see what I did there?) but with the right combination and the right dressing, they can be a lovely change every now and then. I’m so excited to try this one. It looks fantastic!

One of the things you see constantly in fall decor are these adorable signs with the most clever sayings on them. To buy then they cost a lot and I’m not saying the people making them don’t deserve the money they ask for them BUT I don’t have it. I have to make my own everything so I can do it as inexpensively as possible PLUS I like to make things with unusual finds. Like shelves from old table leaves, for example.

That said, one of the easiest ways to make a nice sign if you can’t freehand the lettering (which I totally can NOT) is to use this simple transfer method. I’ve done it the same way many times and it works incredibly well. I know I’m going to be making some signs in the upcoming weeks!

I think I can sense a fall diy coming up where we both make and embellish velvet pumpkins!

  3. What a lovely post, Tara! I do love velvet pumpkins and used Julie’s tutorial from My Wee Abode to make some. We were living in our Prairie Home (the big RV then) so it was fun to make a few with leftover pumpkin tops! They are on the mantel now…

    Happy decorating for fall,

I have no idea why I haven’t made some before now because I adore velvet pumpkins….love the tip about using rice in them. I do struggle with what to use for stems since I haven’t found a good and cheap source for nice ones or real ones. I want to check out at the place where we buy our real pumpkins this year to see if there are any laying on the ground but I’ve never noticed any before. I tried growing pumpkins in my garden this year so I’d have them for decor and stems and so far I only got 1 small pumpkin! haha
