Autumn’s Palette With Summer’s Paintbrush

I’m not throwing pumpkins around just yet.

But I’m thinking about it!

I’m thinking about the colors I will use and what I will change up a bit from last year.

What items I already have that I can change to fit my style even more.

What things I just HAVE to have that I have been dreaming of for so long.

I’m thinking what I can use from nature that reflects the season that we are in currently and the one we are just about to step into.

Have you noticed that nature tells you what to put around your home?

I’m serious. The colors and textures in what is in season or in bloom outside changes as the summer draws to a close. The colors are heavier and moodier. The textures are more coarse. The plants and flowers are sturdier.

I like to bring as much nature inside as I can to style my seasons.

Some branches from my maple tree, for example.

Some wheat I picked by the side of the road after the field had been harvested.

A reference to the crops that are currently being harvested.

These are the simple touches I added to my French buffet this morning to reflect the changing season that is right at the door.

I hope you’ll follow along over the next week or two as I share some simple nature-inspired decor you can add to your home to showcase the change from late summer to early fall.

Total aside….

Let’s go make ourselves a Pumpkin Spice Latte now…..it’s never too early for those!

I don’t have a whole lot to choose from in my yard when it comes to branches but these are still really pretty. Before I know it this maple will be a million different colors. It’s absolutely beautiful in the fall. I sure wish I had some of those pods that you use all the time in your fall decor…

So, so pretty! I especially love the standing wheat bundle! How did you achieve the twisted look?

    1. Stilettos and Shiplap says:

The standing sheaf of wheat I purchased a couple years ago…I think it was Marshalls? I want to make some like it but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. If and when I do I’ll share the process. The loose wheat is the stuff I picked by the side of the road.

  3. It’s definitely never too early for a Pumpkin Spice Latte, Tara! There’s so much great inspiration in this post, and lots of excellent ideas to help with transitional decorating. I really love bringing nature indoors as well.

  13. Such pretty colors to transition to fall decorating.

Thank you so much! Over the years I’ve gotten more and more non-traditional when it comes to my fall decorating. The other day my daughter spied a bright orange outdoor rug in the shape of a pumpkin and begged me to get it for our front door. I was hesitating because I don’t do orange and she said “duh mom, it’s a pumpkin. They’re supposed to be orange!” hahaha
