Thrift Store Challenge: Hooked On Vintage

We’re back! Some of our blogging friends are joining Emily and I again this month to share something we’ve thrifted and how we’ve made it work in our homes and with our style.

We may have purchased our item from a thrift store, flea market, yard sale or found it by the side of the road. Regardless where we got it, it wasn’t brand new and very often isn’t ready to just set in place in our homes. Most of the time we need to revamp it a little.

That’s most of the fun though.

I’ll link the other bloggers finds at the bottom of this post but for now – I can’t wait to show you what I found!

Yup! A piece of really old trim complete with it’s wonderful chipping paint!

Now I’ve got to be honest – the moment I saw this piece of trim in the antique store I was perusing, I got so excited with what I imagined doing with it that I didn’t look it over as well as I should have.

I didn’t turn it over and check the back.

I should know better by now but sometimes I don’t when I get super excited with a find.

Had I bothered to check the back I would have seen a fine crack running the length of the piece right in the middle. By the time I did notice I was already home working on my project however.

I happily marked out where I wanted to drill and prepared to create my brilliant masterpiece.

That’s when I realized there was a crack there. At first I was upset about it because I thought now I couldn’t proceed with my plan and I had ruined this amazing old piece of trim. Then I realized there is always a solution to every snag in DIY.

I had foolishly forgotten that for a minute there.

I grabbed my wood glue and applied some to the crack from the back side and clamped it tightly. Once it was dry I went ahead and glued in my wooden pegs to my newly drilled holes.

Yup!

Once the glue had dried on the hooks I hung it over my stove and trust me when I say it’s very strong and sturdy. I also have no plans of hanging anything heavy from the hooks anyways so I’m good to go!

It’s perfect for hanging some of my baking things on and other random things that I find pretty.

I just love it and can’t imagine why I didn’t do it sooner.

Oh! That’s right! Because I hadn’t discovered this amazing old piece of trim yet!

Well all I can say is – I’m going antiquing again. Wanna come with me?

Truth be told, I have a hole in the wall above my stove from where the old range fan vent was when there was a microwave hanging there. I plan to put in a regular range fan and build a range hood but haven’t gotten to that project yet so I’m always hanging things in the spot to cover the hole! This was the perfect size and shape for the job and shows off some of my vintage cooking things. Glad you like it.

  4. Great idea. You kitchen has a brand new look. You have been busy remodeling your entire home. It looks amazing Tara.

Thank you, Terrie. Yes I have to say after years of projects the To Do list for some of the rooms is getting quite short! What a fun feeling. Guess I’ll have to move once I run out of projects here. Wait! Does that ever happen?
