Patriotic Mantel Display

“I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.” Abraham Lincoln

The other day Emily and I were sharing photos of our mantels that we had just added a few patriotic touches to for some of the summertime holidays. What a surprise we got when we discovered they were almost identical! I suppose it makes sense seeing that Emily is responsible for my milk glass vase addiction in the first place!

All kidding aside (actually she did get me hooked and is the reason for my collection) one of my absolute favorite ways to inject a little patriotic color into my home is to put little flags in milk glass vases. There’s just something about the bright white vases and the vibrant colors of the Stars and Stripes that just look fantastic together.

It’s such a quick and simple way to make a statement.

Add in a few old books – because old books look good everywhere and must be used all the time!

I love doing this on my mantel in my living room but I’ve also been known to put a whole bunch of milk glass vases on my table…

“We are forever indebted to those who have given their lives that we might be free.” Ronald Reagan

“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” Harry S. Truman

I thought I’d cut some fresh roses and chamomile from my flower gardens to add to the mantel this morning. You can put as many faux flowers as you want around your home but there’s just something about real flowers that feels different…..I just wish I had fresh flowers in my garden all year around.

“In the truest sense freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
