French Vintage Friday – Baskets

I love baskets.

To me they make a home look just that – like a home. They are cozy and warm with their colors and texture and they provide endless possibilities when it comes to storage and styling.

Those are all great reasons to have baskets in my opinion!

I’ve used this basket in so many places and I love it’s rectangular shape. One of my favorite places is on top of my fridge since it’s always an awkward place to do anything with. Currently it has moved a step higher to the top of my cabinets though.

As a side-note, I know I’m not in with the popular crowd when I admit that I LIKE having cabinets that don’t reach the ceilings. I simple love all the extra space to style over my cabinets. There isn’t much option to put decorative things in a kitchen if you don’t want a lot of things on your countertops so this is the perfect opportunity to create a warm and welcoming kitchen in a typically unused space.

But back to baskets….

I’ve always loved the shape of this basket but wasn’t crazy about the color of it until I gave it a white-wash with some chalk paint. Now it’s a favorite.

Again, I loved the shape of this hanging basket to make something different for my front door but I didn’t like the color of it initially. Enter chalk paint and now it looks fantastic and I know I’m gonna get a lot of use out of it by simply changing the arrangement seasonally.

This basket was a recent find and I just love it! It would work great for some storage of course because it’s very deep but it just feels like it needs a bunch of big blossoms in it so that is exactly what I did!

I always keep my eyes open when I’m at thrift stores, antique stores, yard sales and the like for baskets that have a great shape and size to them. Remember you can always change the color of them if you don’t like it but you can’t change the shape.

Happy hunting!
