Delicious Autumn – Kitchen & Dining Room Tour

I don’t know if you have kids at home still or not but if you do, you know that the better part of your day is spent in the kitchen. If you aren’t preparing a meal you are cleaning up from one or doing dishes or putting away groceries or fixing a snack or baking or canning or……

You get the point.

I never seem to get every dish washed for more than 5 minutes before SOMEONE needs a snack or a meal. I swear I spend more time in my kitchen than a professional chef does for work!

The kids often hang out at the counter and even eat some of their meals there. I try to make it as cozy as I can in addition to being functional and bright. I find more and more I crave bright spaces.

I couldn’t be happier to have more of my ugly builder grade lights replaced finally!

I know having cabinets that don’t reach the ceiling isn’t everyone preference but it sure works for me. There isn’t a lot of places you can put seasonal decor in a kitchen but on top of the cabinets there is so much space for having fun! I manage to put a lot of vintage treasures up there too.

I’ve had people tell me it looks cluttered and they don’t like it but I say you do you and if it works for you – wonderful! It works for me.

I still haven’t gotten around to building a range hood but when I do I’m sure going to miss this old piece of trim that I turned into a peg rack. I’ll have to put it some place else for sure because I love how it looks and how easy it is to change up what I have above my stove for decor.

I’m lucky to have a fairly large kitchen, all things considered. There is a reasonable amount of cabinet space. At least for the average person who doesn’t collect……things!

Now that we’ve explored the kitchen, let’s head into the dining room…..

Turning what was once a dark family room into a dining room was one of the best decisions I ever made in this house.

We use the dining room a lot and with a large family, the tiny spot by the sliding glass doors just wouldn’t cut it. We literally couldn’t fit a large enough table there for our family to even be comfortable, let alone any guests.

I’ve been able to serve about 20 people with my 2 tables and this dining room table at it largest.

Keeping it simple and neutral in the dining room just like the rest of the house.

The only orange you will find INSIDE my house are those tiny patty pan pumpkins and the very old looking tin painting. In fact I was quite shocked that I liked it when I first saw it and knew that my little girl would get such a thrill out of seeing some “proper colored pumpkins” so I added just that tiny little touch of orange.

As you might recall I have about all the orange a person could want OUTSIDE on the porch this year.

This little piece is my latest acquisition. It was passed over multiple times because it wasn’t in perfect condition. I say that’s a very relative term because I happen to think it’s absolutely perfect and couldn’t love it more!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed touring my kitchen and dining room. Emily and I plan to share another room or two before doing our full hour fall tour. Don’t go far!
