French Vintage Friday – Vintage Chippy Cabinet

If you follow my Instagram feed you would already have seen this or if you already read my post about my kitchen and dining room for fall…..otherwise SURPRISE! I have a new piece of furniture.

I’m using the term “new” meaning new to me because nothing about the actual piece is new in any way. In fact that’s why I not only got it, but got it for a good price. It’s previous owner had been unable to get anyone to buy it because of how “rough” it was. By the time I saw it on Facebook Marketplace it was already being offered for a super deal and when I asked about it she said someone was coming to get it that evening. I asked her to let me know if they passed not knowing how often that had already happened.

They passed. Said it was much more “shabby” than they thought from the picture. When I set up a time to go get it she warned me that it was every bit as rustic as it looked in the pic and was I okay with that? I think she was getting tired of having appointments for people to come by that never actually resulted in getting rid of it. I told her so long as it was relatively solid still I was IN!

Want to see what I’m talking about?

Can you imagine anyone not loving this chippy little piece?

I actually took a putty knife to it and gently scraped away any loose paint (I didn’t remove anything that wasn’t loose) and of course cleaned it really well.

I put some nice shelf paper on the bottoms of the inside of the drawers and a basket where there was once a door. The door was missing when I got it and one drawer pull but the previous owner had kept the pull so I was able to get new cabinet screws and reattach it.

I love small pieces like this, or like my French buffet because they are so versatile. They can literally work in a living room, a dining room, an entry, a bedroom, a bathroom…..any room. They are small enough to fit in lots of places and provide a surface to put things on AND much needed storage for people like me who have no storage in their open concept homes!

I wanted something for this small wall in my dining room for quite some time. I always thought it would be fun to have a vintage tea cart here but I’ve never been able to get one that’s within my price range.

Photo credit goes to my youngest son! I think I might have a photographer in the making….

It’s been so fun styling this for fall and I know I will have just as much (or more) fun styling it for winter!

Thanks for hanging out with me and letting me show you my new treasure.
