Easy Ways To Transition From Christmas To Winter Decor

By the time everyone is tucked safely into bed on Christmas night, you are exhausted. All the planning, the decorating, the cooking, the wrapping, the late nights, the early mornings, the over-stimulated kids who are also on a sugar high from the extra baking that’s been all around the house the last few weeks.

The last thing you even want to THINK about is taking down all the Christmas decorations any time soon.

Let me make it simplerโ€ฆ..sound good?

If you happened to see my Christmas Home Tour for this year then you already know I do a lot of fairly neutral decor even for Christmas and that’s partly because I like that look but also partly because it’s much easier to switch over for winter!

Emily and I had planned to share these tips and ideas with you about a week ago but alas, having successfully made it through the holidays unscathed albeit with numerous sick kids all around us, we succumbed – her with a nasty cold and me with my yearly winter asthma flareup! I’m still coughing but luckily you can’t hear that as you read this blog post. So better late than never – you will have a winter-ready home in no time.

This was how my mantel in my living room looked for Christmas this year. The vintage frame, the music print, the greenery and winter rosesโ€ฆ.all very neutral. Even the gold beads and bells. Nothing that screams CHRISTMAS. Tucked on one end you will note the gold metal treesโ€ฆ..

How did I change this up just a little for winter?

Remember those feather trees I made?

Well I simply removed the gold trees from the mantel and tucked some of the feather trees inโ€ฆ.

Everything else stayed the same.

Okay now take a peek over at the little table to the left of the fireplaceโ€ฆ..this is how it looked for Christmas. I should have taken a better photo of just that arrangement at the time but for some reason it escaped the lens of my camera!

All I did to switch it out for winter was to remove the little evergreen tree (it could have stayed since it wasn’t a decorated Christmas tree but I just wanted a more snowy, winter wonderland look) and the nutcracker, take the little red berries out of the arrangement and switch them out for jingle bells and another feather tree. Voila!

Okay one more little spot I want to show you today and then I will save more tips and ideas for another day.

Do you remember how this little table looked for Christmas? Some vintage style art, a silver gravy boat full of sugared berries, the jingle bellsโ€ฆ..

Swapping out the sugared berries for some faux pearls, rotating the jingle bells so none of the red berries on them showed, adding a little toy soldier that looks like ice and changing out the photo in the frame. Super simple little changes that took literally about 5 minutes and required very little packing stuff up and finding other things etcโ€ฆ.now its good to go for the rest of the winter.

This change took very little time at all to do and didn’t require very much to be packed away for next year. I only packed away some red berries and the gold trees for this entire change.

Hopefully this will help make your life a little less stressful this time of year. It doesn’t have to be a big deal that takes a week to switch over.

Until next time,

Stephanie, you just made my day! I’m so glad you stopped by and it’s always so nice to know someone likes what you’re sharing. I THINK I got that one from Hobby Lobby just before Christmas this year. If not then it was Marshalls because I bought a couple pillows at both of those places.
