“Tray” Chic

Okay I admit….that was pretty corny! It’s true though, this tray is now tres chic!

It’s not like it was particularly ugly before, for that matter. It was pretty enough to catch my eye on a shelf full of all sorts of trays and things at Ross Dress for Less.

It just wasn’t quite right. The tray was originally silver and the gray and white patterned bottom was more of a greige and I wasn’t overly thrilled with the bathtub design.

No problem because I knew I could “fix” it within minutes and mostly with things I had laying around my house.

First I removed the bottom. It was pretty easy to remove because it was just held in place with double sided foam stick tape. Had it been unable to be removed I would have simply taped it off.

Next I put it in a box and took it out to my garage for a transformation.

Ah the power of paint!

I painted it inside and out with some matte black spray paint that is made for painting metal. It was something I had laying around on my paint shelf.

Once the paint was all dry I grabbed my trusty Rub ‘n’ Buff in Gold Leaf and applied it all over, inside and outside, with a small paintbrush. Make sure you apply it roughly, leaving some of the black showing in the nooks and crannies. This gives it an antique look.

While that dried I tackled the bottom. I grabbed some shelf paper that I liked and cut it to size. I used the stick-on type, not the foam type. Once it was smoothed into place on the bottom, making sure there were no air bubbles, I set it back into place.

I decided not to secure it into the tray frame so that I can easily remove the bottom to clean it. If you wanted it secured you could simply re-attach it with some strips of foam double sided tape again like it was before.

Now I could show you how it looks all styled and pretty….

But I’m not going to.

You’re going to have to wait to see how it looks in place once I post another update on my Master Bathroom!

I promise it will be soon.

See you next time!
