Home Is The Nicest Word There Is

I don’t know what your memories are of cozy family Christmases and what all they included but for me meals around the table were a big part of it.

My mom and my grandma were amazing cooks and the table fairly groaned with delicious food and good conversation was always part of the deal.

Christmas always included my grandparents, fresh cedar boughs, the smell of the wood stove, ice skating, lots of board games….you get the idea.

When I set about to create this tablescape, I wanted it to feel like those old family christmases. Lots of natural elements and lots of ambiance.

I started with my DIY table riser, as I often do. I like the height it creates and if I need to remove the centerpiece, I can do that easily by removing the riser instead of every individual thing. It also makes the centerpiece more of a focal point and more interesting.

I made this particular one so that it was big enough to fit my large table with its leaves. You can find how I made it HERE.

Every detail is important and I started by layering a small crocheted tablecloth on top of the riser before adding the decor.

Inside one of my teapots I arranged some cheerful daisies and some red berries. Just because you don’t typically think of certain flowers as a winter flower, doesn’t mean it can’t be. This arrangement works perfectly in this setting because of the colors and the winter berries.

Some vintage ironstone in my DIY plate rack is showcased on one side of the florals and a beautiful white cake stand from Target flanks the other side.

Combining vintage pieces like the ironstone and the brass candlesticks with new items like the teapot and the cake stand, helps to give a cozy, nostalgic feel to the table.

I scattered bottle brush trees, little evergreens, pinecones and antlers around to give it that natural and rustic feeling that I was looking for. Some splashes of red made it pop with the addition of some tiny red ball ornaments.

In my opinion candles are the key to any setting that you want ambiance and this is no exception. I mixed vintage brass candlesticks with clear glass votive holders and make the whole table glow.

The place settings were made by layering inexpensive gold chargers with vintage ironstone plates and vintage inspired linens with another pop of red.

I got some rusty jingle bell ornaments from Walmart and cut them apart so I had individual bells for each place settings. Set in a bed of faux juniper, these give me all the feels.

All I need now is the perfect menu made up of lots of cozy comfort foods and some guests like you to gather around my table.

Don’t be shy. I have lots of space and many extra seats.

I tucked a couple little buildings from a Christmas village into the centerpiece as well to give it a homey feel.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope this tablescape inspired some of your own and many pleasant memories of Christmas.
