French Vintage Friday: “New” Vintage Furniture For My Living Room

I did it again. You know, that thing where I am on Facebook Marketplace looking for a specific item that I actually need and I run into something I can’t live without?

Yup!

I did it when I was looking for a nightstand for my son’s room and ended up with a set of antique twin bed frames instead.

I’m not mad about those beds at all but it certainly changed a LOT of plans when I found them and had to fit them into his roomโ€ฆ.

Well 2 days ago I did it againโ€ฆ..looking for a dresser.

Yup! A dresser.

And instead I found a set of living room furniture I couldn’t pass up. You see, the man was literally giving them away. He was going to take them to the dump unless someone wanted them. I knew the pieces wouldn’t go with the couch I already had but I didn’t care and a short time later they were in my house.

Two of the wooden feet on a chair and the couch needed some repairing but the pieces were all there so I knew it would be a simple fix.

So here is the story behind this setโ€ฆ..the man said his grandparents had bought the set in the very early 1930’s and had it for many, many years. At some point it was passed down to his parents who continued to love it until now. They had it reupholstered one time over 30 years ago and he couldn’t remember anything about the original upholstery color etc ( I asked) but the only reason they were getting rid of it now was that in their 90’s they could no longer get up out of them!

Just like the old lady who swallowed the fly, arranging this furniture in my living room became a case of “one thing leads to another” and I’m currently in the market for a set of matching comfy chairs that play well with this set!

After repairing the feet and letting them cure well for over 24 hours, I started moving furniture around this way and that way, taking pictures and sending them off to my best friend Emily for her expert opinion! We would chat about it, come up with other ideas and I’d rearrange everything and take more pics and off we would go again. One of us really needs to move to where the other one lives!

Eventually we settled on this arrangement as being the best but of course now I need another set of chairs like I was saying for under the other window.

I’m a bit scared to start looking for some though because there is no telling what I might find instead!

Since these pictures were taken to discuss furniture placement I’m sort of shocked there aren’t dog toys and kid things scattered everywhere! It’s my lucky day!

Wish me luck! I could end up with patio furniture instead of chairs for my living room. You just don’t say no to free furniture. I know I won’t look this good when I’m almost 100 years old!

Until next time,
