French Vintage Friday – French Toile

Is there anything that says French more than toile? I’ve always been drawn to it.

It doesn’t seem to matter what room you put it in or the color you use, it always adds that level of sophistication and charm without being over the top.

At least that’s my opinion.

I think it’s the color combinations that add the sophistication and the designs that bring it back to earth and make it homey.

I love them all equally be it a floral pattern or a farm scene.

When I was recently walking through a store and saw some lovely toile on clearance, I was very excited and immediately knew it was time to make some gorgeous throw pillows.

I’ve been saying I need to make/buy throw pillows for a while now but never seem to do it.

I made these pillows the way I normally make all my throw pillows (unless I don’t have enough fabric to do the envelope back) for easy removal to clean or use the pillow form for another cover. I’ve got a pillow tutorial HERE.

I chose the part of the design that I wanted to be centered on my pillow front and measured out from there for each one before cutting. I just love the scenes on this particular toile.

The great thing about a neutral fabric like this is that I can literally put these pillows anywhere in my home and they will work with the color scheme.

In fact, I’m not sure how long they will last in my living room before I have to try them out in my bedroom! I think I may need to look for some more clearance toile!
