Christmas In July – DIY Framed Art

Show of hands – who is ready for Christmas?

While I wipe the sweat from my forehead I’m thinking maybe I should add “in July”! After spending an hour or two weeding in my flowerbeds and trying to keep my lawn from getting too crispy where the sprinklers aren’t working……I came inside to the refreshing air conditioning and started trying to get my mind into Christmas decor.

I know, right?

Silly as it seems in the heat, Emily and I decided to share a Christmas inspiration post with you once per week for the month of July so…..drumroll please!

How about we start with something simple?

Sounds good? I wanted to share a simple DIY I did a couple years ago. Really it could be done for nearly any season but I made these ones more appropriate for winter.

I took some basic plastic framed mirrors I had thrifted and removed the backs.

I used the mirror as a template to trace and cut out a piece of vintage sheet music for each frame….

…and added a simple wooden shape (in this case a star) that I had spray painted gold. I embellished them with faux pearls for some added bling.

Regardless of the shape of ornament you use, they’re so simple but so cute. And they barely cost anything.

How about another simple framed DIY?

Well…..if you insist!

For this one I once again used the insert from the frame (Dollar Tree plastic frames in this case that I had applied Rub ‘n’ Buff to) to cut out a piece of vintage sheet music as the background.

Then I took a plastic ring that I had saved from a random previous project and I turned it gold using Rub ‘n’ Buff as well.

With hot glue I attached a couple sprigs of faux boxwood to the gold ring and a cut little gold jingle bell making it into a miniature wreath. I then hot glued this onto the sheet music backing.

A wooden star in the corner of the frame to embellish it a little more and it was time to style this piece.

Later I added some faux pearls to the frame as well for a little more bling.

As you can see this could so easily become appropriate for any season as well by simple changing up the little wreath. Perhaps some pink ribbon on the wreath for spring (think valentines) or a tiny flag and some stars for something patriotic…..there really is no limit to how you could use these.

Because of how neutral I made them, they work for the entire winter as part of my decor too. Not just for Christmas.
