Autumn’s Splendor In My Living Room

I’m going to tell you a secret. It’s a secret that involves Emily as well and I hope she doesn’t mind that I’m telling….

You see Emily and I are so much alike you’d think we were sisters or something. We like the same things, approach many situations in the same way and go about styling and renovating our homes in much the same way.

Like when we start projects and don’t finish them and then start something new and probably leave it somewhat unfinished too! We recently shared a post where we listed 5 projects we have had unfinished for some time in the hopes that sharing them will make us complete them. Out of embarrassment, perhaps?

So far I’m almost done 3 of the things on that list but…..some of it is thanks to THIS blog post.

You see a couple days ago Emily and I agreed we would share our living rooms all styled for fall this year.

On Thursday.

Thursday came and both of us decided we needed to “freshen up” the rooms just a little which is code for “clean up all the junk that we don’t want in a picture and maybe finish something we are in the middle of”.

I’ve been getting away with it for a while – nobody has said anything about the different wall colors on either side of my fireplace when I have posted a view like this one……even Emily said she didn’t notice at first.

I thought I’d get away with it one last time for Thursday’s post and continue being lazy and not finishing the paint job in my living room……but after taking the photos I realized I just couldn’t. Not this time.

So I ran to Home Depot and grabbed a gallon of paint and about the time I SHOULD have been posting the finished pictures of my living room, I was climbing up a ladder, taking down my curtains and BEGINNING to paint. I was so worried that I would make Emily wait for me to be finished and that was so rude but then I got a text from her telling me a secret.

SHE had a secret too, you see. She had moved her living room chandelier to a lovely vantage point above her dining table and now her living room had no light fixture. She was trying to figure out what to do about that and hoped she wasn’t holding ME up.

Of course I confessed.

Needless to say we gave ourselves another 24 hours to reinvent our spaces and therefore here we are a day later, just getting around to sharing our living rooms.

But I think you’ve GOT to admit that it looks better to have the same color walls on BOTH sides of the fireplace!

I sure think so.

Of course then when I finished that wall I turned around and looked at the opposite wall which is actually my hallways but shows in my living through all the arched openings……and I couldn’t leave that wall either so this morning, super early, before it was light enough to even take the new pictures of my living room, I started painting again.

I didn’t stop until I reached my dining room and I think once this post is live I will go back at it and just get the rest of this floor finished. That way I can cross it off my To Do list!

Although I’ve stayed mainly with my usual neutrals for fall, I have added in a bit of a “new” color for me. I blame it on my vintage chairs. Ever since I got them I’ve had a new appreciation for mustard, particularly in the fall.

This year I added some cozy blankets that have a mustard pattern, some new throw pillows with some mustard, and a hint of deep green here and there like in the pumpkin pillows in my vintage chairs. I’m liking the green and it gave me some ideas for Christmas colors this year…..but that’s a post for another day!

My beloved blush pink has made an appearance as usual in some of my pumpkins.

I can hardly believe it myself but I actually left some hydrangeas ON the bushes this year and they’ve dried into such lovely shades of greens and pinks and almost a mulberry color. A simple demijohn full of these blooms is all the coffee table needs. It’s also fairly safe around my Rottweiler’s tail! (Don’t worry, I don’t leave the candles lit unless she’s not around!)

I’m loving how much brighter the hallway looks with its fresh coat of paint. Considering it’s a very overcast, rainy day today, the space is still nice and light.

Instead of having a pumpkin explosion, most of my living room has been given fall feels by lots of cozy textures and comfy things like blankets and pillows.

A simple tray and some candles is all I have on my vintage breakfast table. I can’t get enough of these wooden acorns from Hobby Lobby either….

A view I rarely share of my living room and in fact, the better part of my main floor. All that’s missing on this side of the house is the kitchen which is behind me.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tour of my living room this fall. I’ve enjoyed having you and I’m so glad to have that painting done FINALLY!

Emily and I are talking about sharing a tour of the main living areas of our homes very soon but you know…..we might have some construction to do first or we might have to reinvent a space completely so I won’t promise what day it will appear! lol

Speaking of Emily – let’s go check out her living room this fall and don’t forget to really check out her lighting situation! Just click on the photo below.

Oh good! I’m so happy to hear that. I’m loving the wall color as well. I was happy with the old color for a long time but I needed a change and I’m so glad I did. Everything looks different with just a subtle change to the walls….
