Quick & Easy $0 Furniture Refresh

You gotta like that price! I know I do.

Sometimes a piece just starts to feel like it needs a bit of a freshening up, don’t you think?

Thats how it was with this piece. I got it back in 2019 and this is how it looked when I bought it off Facebook Marketplace. I saw SO much potential but clearly couldn’t leave it just as it was.

I added some white paint, still leaving some of the dark showing through but just a bit more refined. I left the hardware as it was – dark iron looking with a skiff of the white paint.

So it has remained ever since and so it has been well loved. It has great storage inside and has been a favorite.

But then…..

I got to looking at it the other day and decided it could use just a little tiny bit of a facelift.

A refresh, if you will.

What did I plan to do, you ask?

Well first I raided my paint shelf and grabbed a can with a little bit of leftover white paint in it.

Next I grabbed an artists brush, a rag and my favorite shade of Rub ‘n’ Buff – Gold Leaf.

I began by carefully removing all the hardware and using the artists brush and rag I coated them with the Rub ‘n’ Buff until they were a lovely gold.

I had to boil the hinges to remove all the layers of paint before I could turn them gold…..well worth the effort however.

Next the entire piece got a coat of the white paint including the decorative bits where it was previously sort of distressed.

Right about then I had an idea……

…And for a little surprise I painted the fronts of the inner drawers a super pale pink – leftover paint from my powder room. I know I am the only one who will likely see this little surprise burst of color but that’s okay. Its a special little surprise that will make me smile every time I open the doors!

Finally I put all the hardware back in place.

Voila!

Super simple using ONLY materials I had laying around and it looks like a completely different piece. I have always loved this little buffet and I always will. It’s just a wee bit classier now.

Of course now that I look at it the mirrored shelf that hangs above this little buffet now needs a little refresh…..sigh…..better go get those paint cans and brushes again.

Isn’t it amazing what a little bit of effort a some leftover materials can do?

Until next time,
