Festive Trimmings All Merry & Bright – Christmas Mantel

As I sit here writing this the wind is howling so loudly around the house that it sounds like someone is trying to play a trick on me and make believe they are a ghost! Seriously you can feel the house shudder a little every now and then when a particularly strong gust of wind hits it.

That’s not exactly a strange occurrence where I live for this time of year. We get mostly gray days and lots of wind and blustery foggy days for a couple months before spring brings the return of the sun.

It’s at this time of year that I am more thankful than EVER for my fireplace. It is going most days to take the chill off, to provide a cozy ambiance or to warm someone (or some dog) up after they’ve been outside in the damp and cold.

Christmas 2020

No matter the season my mantel is always one of the first spots I decorate and is the one area that gets tweaked and adjusted the most often. When the fireplace is being used I have to be much more careful of what I put on my mantel since the heat would affect some decor……

I do it differently every year also although there are some things that are up there MOST of the time and if I remove them, it just doesn’t seem right. Like the huge vintage picture frame that has stayed up ever since I first put it there quite a long time ago. It was originally intended for my bedroom and made an appearance there for about a month or so until I needed something large for the mantel. I thought I’d give it a turn there and then put it back in my bedroom again but it has never found it’s way back!

I kept it pretty simple this year. Some gold beads, some florals, a few trees and of course some vintage books.

You will rarely ever find my mantel without some books on it!

I took the fall greenery out of my grapevine wreath and tucked some winter branches into it. By tucking them behind the twigs of the wreath and not using any hot glue, I can keep using the wreath form over and over again every season.

Now I think I’ll make myself a nice hot cup of coffee and cozy up by this fireplace and do some reading……

Let the wind blow!

Maybe I’ll work on styling my bedroom mantel next! I love cozy fireplaces so much that I have an electric one in my main bedroom!
