It’s Just A Different Shade Of White, Mom…

Over the past couple years Emily and I have made lists several times outlining a number of unfinished projects we had around our homes. We are the queens of starting something major and getting almost to the finish line but stopping just before we get there. We struggle to pick back up and finish the last little bits of the projects – especially before we start a new one.

Holding each other accountable and making the lists has helped us complete a lot of things but we were discussing the other day how almost every list has maybe one thing left on it that we didn’t get to cross off and we decided to go back and fix that. We have a “new” list now comprised of the things we didn’t finish on our old lists! lol.

Like I literally wrote them all down on paper. One for Emily and one for me.

Then I went to Home Depot and bought a gallon of paintโ€ฆโ€ฆwhy, you ask?

Let me show you.

Remember how I shared a few months ago that I had started painting my main floor walls but had run out of paint and never finished the job? Well at that time I did go get more paint and I finished everything except the dining room. I literally ran out of paint again on one corner of my hutch in my dining room and was so busy with Christmas and everything that I didn’t get to finish it. Of course then you sort of get used to it and it isn’t as big a priority after a while.

For example, you can see in this pic how the dining room is still the old color while the rest of the walls are the new color.

And whenever I share my favorite chippy cabinet it’s still hanging out against a blue backdrop.

So for my first trick, I went and got another gallon of paint and yesterday I started the dining room walls, one wall at a time, putting everything back as it dried. That’s how I like to paint in my own home rather than have the entire room upside down. Makes it easier to continue with real life…

Voila! All finished, all one color throughout the main floor now. No awkward strip in the middle of a wall where I ran out of paint.

So about the time I’m finishing with this painting project and feeling very proud of myself, my daughter walks in the room and asks me why I want to paint everything “white” and why I like “white” so much!

I informed her that for her information this wall color was not white at all, in fact it was a very light dove gray. She looked ever so carefully where I pointed out the difference against some creamy white trim and then shaking her head said “it’s just a different shade of white, mom”!

Well actually its Benjamin Moore “Classic Gray” so there!

As for my love affair with really pale wall colors, I can only explain it based on how it makes the other pieces, like all my treasured vintage collections, be the star of the show. It can’t be beat for showcasing things rather than being the focal point itself.

When I was younger I was in love with color. The brighter the better. I still love color. Every shade and hueโ€ฆโ€ฆI just don’t like it everywhere like I used to.

I happen to like how the new wall color looks and that’s what matters. What I like more than anything though is the satisfaction of being able to cross this item off my To Do list!

Until next time,

Emily’s Finished Project

The walls look nice and fresh. Do you plan to paint the ceilings at some point? They look slightly yellow in the pics. But that might just be the lighting. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I will eventually paint the ceilings. They are a pale creamy color called Croissant but its not every day you want to take on painting 10′ ceilings so I’m procrastinating. lol
