‘‘Twas The Night Before Christmas”…Home Tour

…And all through the house, all sorts of creatures were stirring, and messing up the house!

That’s more like how it goes at my home.

You know the expression “the pitter patter of little feet”? It’s more like a marching band here.

But welcome to my home. Won’t you come in?

I’ll make us some fresh coffee and grab a plate of Christmas cookies.

I moved this bookcase from the master bedroom to the main floor a couple years ago and stopped using it as a bookcase in favor of its current use – a hutch in my dining room. I still plan to eventually get a hutch when I find the right piece and at that point this bookcase will be moved again and find another purpose.

Who knows? Maybe it will eventually hold books again!

Most of the time if you come over to my house you end up in my dining room for a meal at some point. This dining room set was my in-laws and was passed down through the family several times until it came to live with us. After a slight facelift it looks like it’s pretty comfy in my dining room.

My chandelier was a garage sale find that also looks a lot different than it did originally. For seasonal charm I like to add greenery, garland, bells or ornaments etc to it.

I’ve always wanted a “tree of my own” that I could decorate as I like. Ever since I became a mother I’ve always had the kids ornaments and momentos from trips on our main family tree.

I’ve looked for a tree that I would get to decorate however I liked for several years now but I never took the plunge for some reason. This year while thrifting I stumbled across this particular white tree and was completely shocked when I couldn’t get it out of my mind and had to go back and get it.

You see, I’d always imagined I would get an evergreen – if possible sort of a feather tree style. I hadn’t even considered a white one. While this may not remain “my tree” forever and always, I sure do like it right now and I knew it would be the perfect style to showcase my (pitifully small) vintage ornament collection.

Of course now that I have this tree, I HAVE to get more ornaments for it so…..just saying.

My kitchen has changed so dramatically since I first moved in and has undergone several major changes. I can hardly believe it myself until I look back at photos but it’s one of the spaces I spend the most time in and I love adding seasonal touches to it.

One of my favorite locations to style is the area above my cabinets. This keeps my countertops nice and free for cooking but still adds such a cozy and seasonal vibe. This year I kept it pretty simple and something that can remain throughout the entire winter, not just for Christmas.

Taking the doors off this cabinet was one of the best decisions I’ve made! I just love being able to showcase some of my favorite ironstone dishes and vintage pieces.

No space is too small for some cheerful season touches. Even my small main floor powder room gets a touch of Christmas.

With it’s high ceilings and no character in the bones of this space, I’ve worked hard to bring extra cozy touches to my living room. Although originally the fireplace was one of my least favorite features, it is now my favorite, thanks to a major facelift a couple years ago.

It remains the thing I most frequently style and change up. It’s just so much fun to have a mantel to style and I can assure you, if I didn’t have a working fireplace, I’d have a faux mantel at least.

Changing the artwork in some of my frames is one of the quickest ways to add a seasonal touch to a space. I love vintage prints.

Vintage books add charm and character to any space and I frequently choose books based on their colors to correspond to the season…simple trees and pinecones are all that has been added to give a cozy, natural vibe to this space.

It was love at first sight when I originally saw this pair of vintage chairs. The upholstery was in such good condition and such a lovely neutral tone that I chose to leave them just as they were. It doesn’t seem to matter what season I’m adding decor for, they warm up the space and make it looks so cozy and homey.

It’s always fun to add some cozy touches to my coffee table. Here I’ve just put some faux evergreens and some pinecones in a wooden trough and added some charm with super easy DIY ornaments.

The moment I saw the black and white ticking stripe that these stockings were made from, I could picture some wonderful vintage style stockings.

This nativity has been in the family for a number of years and it’s the first thing the kids want to get out and set up when it’s even approaching winter. They frequently move the figures around and I’m not supposed to touch it at all!

To add some rustic charm to these branch trees, I’ve threaded some faux cedar and red berries into the center of them.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing around my home (well, the main floor anyways) .

I always enjoy having you visit and hope I’ve inspired you with the little seasonal touches I have around my home. I’m so glad you’ve taken this journey with me as I’ve been renovating and transforming my home. I have so many fun projects planned for the New Year.

If you aren’t ready to go yet and would like more seasonal inspiration – I’ve got you covered. Let’s go visit a home that inspires me every single day! You’ve got it! Emily’s home.

  3. What a beautiful home! Our house is usually pretty noisy too and we always had a messy Christmas eve since we hosted Christmas dinner for my whole family the first 15 or so years of our marriage.

  7. […] Christmas 2020 saw my kitchen the most simplistic it has ever been. Perhaps it was a good thing that I didn’t have nearly as much of the style of simple and neutral decor as I would have liked. It prevented me from filling things up as much and forced me to keep things cleaner and neater. Especially above my cabinets. […]
