The Stockings Were Hung On The Chimney With Care…

…Or in this case, on the wall!

I’m thinking Saint Nicholas probably won’t be filling these stockings but you never know! He will, of course, have to find an alternate route into my living room because I don’t actually have a chimney which is why I hung these stockings on the wall!

While browsing at Hobby Lobby recently, I happened across a small bin of clearance fabrics. Just small pieces, about a yard or so each. One of the ones I saw gave me an idea instantly!

It was a black and white ticking stripe and all I could see were some french inspired stockings.

You know! The old world, european looking ones that are long and slender. And elegant. Not the big chubby, shapeless ones you see on sale by the dozen in every store you enter this time of year. But how would I cut them out the way I wanted? I’m not known for my artistic abilities most of the time, so off to google I went!

Luckily, after some searching (stocking searching, not soul searching) I happened across someone with the same idea who has much more artistic ability than me.

Used with permission from Jamie Lundstrom

These are the gorgeous vintage inspired stockings that I found created by none other than Jamie Lundstrom! If you enjoy french decor at all, then you already know that name. Her book “French Vintage Decor” has been on my Amazon wish list for a while now! I’m hoping Santa will bring it this year….

Anyways, I digress! Jamie graciously shared her pattern as well as a wonderful tutorial on how she made these lovely stockings on her blog. You can find both HERE.

Since it isn’t my pattern and she already did a wonderful tutorial, I’m not going to bother showing you each step on how to make them. I will simply show you the fabrics I used and how I embellished them.

Sound like a plan?

Oh good!

Here is the lovely clearance fabric I found that gave me the inspiration! I did picture it with some sort of fancy lace or faux fur or something at the tops of them and since I couldnโ€™t find the width of lace I wanted…

…I went with a faux fur fabric instead.

Since the faux fur is a very thick and heavy fabric and the stockings are just cotton, I didnโ€™t line the tops because I didnโ€™t want them so heavy that they just kept falling over. Instead I just hemmed the top edge and then stitched them on.

But then I added the piรจce de rรฉsistance ! I took some red and white ticking stripe that I had leftover from some throw pillows…

I ripped them into strips approximately 1 inch wide by 36โ€ long…

Then I tied each one into a bow with long tails and tacked 2 (stacked) onto each stocking.

I hung them in my living room where some vintage candelabras usually reside.

Iโ€™ll definitely be making more of these stockings soon. I just love the size and shape of them. Wouldnโ€™t they look amazing made out of vintage lace?
