The Secrets Behind My Closed Doors

Remember how I made some major changes to my kitchen just before Christmas 2019? I went from my very dark stained cabinets to light, bright antiqued white ones.

At the time I decided to paint them I was in a rush to get them done before I put up my winter/Christmas decor for some posts I was writing and collaborations I was doing so time was of the essence.

But I also have this problem that Iโ€™ve confessed to you before and that is I love starting projects and I love when Iโ€™m doing the part that shows major changes. When you get to the part that really isnโ€™t very noticeable however, that when I can get derailed.

Like the 3rd coat of paint.

Like basically any coat of polyurethane.

Like the inside of my kitchen cabinets!

Yup! I painted the outsides completely and I antiqued them and I put several coats of polyurethane on them all so I could finally put my lovely vintage brass pulls on but they only got 1 coat of paint on the inside and after that?

Well who would know, really?

I mean sure it bothered me a little when I would open the doors and see the streaky inside but mostly I just ignored it. Sure when I had company over and I was preparing a meal and THEY saw the streaky insides of my cabinet doors, I got embarrassed. Apparently not enough though.

But now? Now Iโ€™m gonna do something about it because I made a promise to my best friend Emily to finish painting the inside of all those doors. I donโ€™t want to break my promise to my best friend!

I tried everything I could this morning to put off starting.

I made iced coffee.

I ran to Home Depot to get a container to mix chalk paint in.

I folded laundry.

I washed dishes.

But then?

Then I couldnโ€™t put it off any longer and I mixed my chalk paint and I started painting.

I put on my favorite station on Pandora to listen to while I painted and I painted some more.

And then?

I painted even more.

Of course then I had to put on some polyurethane too because even though it was looking pretty good with just the paint, I couldnโ€™t tell my best friend that I was done my cabinet doors and not actually be done them soโ€ฆ..I finished them.

Itโ€™s really an amazing thing to have a best friend who holds you accountable. My house likes it too!

Unfortunately this isn’t a project that really shows up much that I finished it but I know I did and you know I did and every time I open one of the doors I will be proud of myself for finishing it finally!
