The 5 Things You Simply Must Have For Your Spring Decor

Do you want to know something?

Something really important at this time of year?

Oh good!

It’s a secret but because we are such good friends I’m going to tell you.

Shhhh…..it’s just between us.

It’s the 5 things you need in order to bring spring into your home.

There are more than 5 things that you CAN bring in that makes it feel like spring has sprung but if you want to keep it simple and affordable 5 is all you need.

I bet you already have some of these things in your decor closet or the bins and boxes you tucked safely away last year when you brought out your summer decor.

Should we get started?

Let’s grab a coffee first and get comfortable.

You can sit by me.

Tulips.

I have a bit of an addiction to white ones when it comes to decor or sometimes very pale pink ones.

Outside it’s a different story.

Lots of color and variety out there. The brighter and more cheerful the better to draw your attention away from the brown grass and the leafless trees and the flowerbeds that look disturbingly empty still.

Inside I can’t find a place that doesn’t do better with a bouquet of white tulips or three.

My favorite ones if you’re being frugal (which we always are, right?) are from Walmart. You can get a large bunch of 9 of them for $5 and if you want you can cut them all apart which is what I always do.

I buy a few more every year and they’ve had the same ones for the past several years running.

They are very genuine looking, have realistically bendable stems and are a really good quality.

I’ve mixed real ones in with these ones or places all faux in a vase of water and nobody could tell the difference.

#2

Birds eggs.

You know those small speckled ones?

They come in bags with quite a few and often a variety of colors and sizes for very little money.

I’ve gotten some at Walmart and some at Hobby Lobby but you can also get some nice ones on Amazon for a good price.

My favorites are the pale blue ones that resemble robins eggs and the brownish ones. They look the most realistic.

A bowl of eggs, making almost anything soft into a little nest and putting some eggs inside, some random eggs sitting next to a lovely vintage style vignette or some beautifully patina’d clay pots, I’ve even places a few eggs in a nest of moss in my giant gold ladle on my dining room wall.

The sky really is the limit. There’s just something about the reference to new life that makes little eggs perfection in the spring.

They pair beautifully with hyacinths too. Real or faux.

#3

Baby animals but especially bunnies.

I don’t know why since I’m not talking about easter decor here but bunnies just scream spring to me along with most baby animals.

One item, 4 different looks

I think the reason why I have more bunnies in my spring decor than any other animal though is that it’s so easy to find them this time of year.

Think of baby birds, calves on their little wobbly legs, baby goats and lambs – all of these are adorable and born in the early spring but so much harder to find than bunnies.

Grab a discount bunny figurine and tie a bow around it’s neck with some vintage lace and you’ve got yourself an amazing expensive looking decoration that cost you very little.

I’d say my second favorite baby figurine is probably birds. I have a number of pudgy little birds that you can find tucked here and there around my home throughout most of the year.

#4

Clay pots.

I know, right?

I can’t get enough of them.

If you are lucky enough to be able to find old crusty ones hanging around someone’s garage sale or in the back corner of some vintage shop, do not hesitate for a second.

Do not pause to mull it over.

Do not pass go.

Do not collect $200.

Walk quickly or run to the checkout with them and take those babies home and spread them all over your home.

A couple here or there or a basket full of them – they make such a statement and with or without anything else, they scream spring from the tops of the nearest mountains!

One of the first things I obsess about in the early spring when the air feels different and the smell of spring is in the air, is digging in the dirt and planting things.

Seeing the clay pots laying around inside makes me feel like I am even while the ground is still too cold to work.

If you can’t find crusty old vintage pots then you can always add some faux patina to some new ones, break a pot or two to have some pieces to put in vignettes or even have some crisp new ones sitting out with some gardening gloves and a hand tool or two.

#5

Vintage printables.

Have we met?

Then you already know that vintage is what makes my heart skip a beat.

A trick that I employ regularly is to mix vintage style printables in with genuine vintage pieces. This helps stretch the budget AND gives you the look you want while you continue searching for the genuine pieces that may still be eluding you.

I will print pictures for framing, print postcards to tuck in here and there and incorporate throughout my decor and even make garlands with. If I ever want to create something (like my spring garland) that COULD potentially damage a genuine vintage piece (like by the spot of glue to attach it to the ribbon) then I will print out a vintage style card or picture etc to use. This gives me the look without altering or damaging the real thing.

There are just so many beautiful prints available for free printing or you can purchase some lovely ones on Etsy, if you prefer.

Another very inexpensive spring decorating idea is to frame a bunch of spring botanicals for an eye-grabbing display.
