The 12 DIY’s Of Christmas – Icicle Ornaments

I had something in mind…..I could picture exactly how it would look. I knew exactly what materials I would need to make it….

But then….

I couldn’t find what I needed in my small town and didn’t have the time to order supplies online.

Oh well! Necessity is the mother of invention, right?

After a lengthy trip to Hobby Lobby, these were the materials I ended up getting that were as close as I could find to what I ideally wanted. The best part about it is all their beads were 40% off!

Basically I just took the eyepins (the longest ones I could find) and threaded on the beads in the pattern I wanted.

I left enough of the eyepin sticking out above the last bead I threaded, to enable me to take some needle-nose pliers and bend the pin around to form another eye.

Try to bend the pin into a similar rounded shape (or eye) as the opposite end or your beads can slide off.

Next I took my metallic embroidery floss and wrapped it around a piece of cardboard. The width of your cardboard determines how long your tassel is and the number of times you wrap the cardboard determines how thick your tassel is. I wrapped mine about 12 times. Then carefully slide it off the cardboard holding the part opposite the cut ends of the floss.

Next I cut a length of the embroidery floss just a few inches and separated the strands. I took one strand and wrapped it around the part I was holding a few times and knotted it. This will create the top of your tassel.

It should look like this by now. Note the bottom of the tassel is still mostly loops.

Using scissors, cut the loops and shake the tassel a little to separate the strands of floss.

Then I just slightly opened the eye at the bottom of my beads and slid it through some loops at the top of the tassel, then closed the eye again using my pliers. I put an ornament hook through the top eye and voila! You have some icicle ornaments!

You can clearly put these on a tree and they look fabulous, you can attach them to a lampshade (minus the ornaments hooks obviously), or you can do what I planned with them.

Chandliers need all the bling and sparkle they can get at Christmas!

I took the leftover ones I made, minus tassels, and hung them on one of my trees….One day soon I will make a whole lot more of them and put a lot of them on my tree because they look fabulous there too!

Until next time,
