Project #1: Kids Bathroom – Decor Beginnings

It’s been so long since we talked about this project. Like years, I’m pretty sure. Or at least that’s how it feels.

Here I was doing so well getting this project done fairly quickly, all things considered, and then bam! The “rona”.

Now if you are the sort of person who buys their decor new and from big box stores, that would work okay because you could order online. Right now I envy you.

I’m the sort of person who hunts through all sorts of icky, sticky, dirty junk that other people don’t want and I buy it and I fix it up and breathe new life into it. That doesn’t make me better, that just makes me different.

But that means the order to stay home and the closure of all my favorite haunts brought my decor life to a screeching halt along with half of my projects.

Excuse me while I go cry for a minute. B right back.

Let’s have a moment of silence for the old look in the kids’ bathroom. You can see more pics of that HERE along with my plans for this tiny space. While it worked for them at first (You don’t even want to see what it looked like when I moved in!), they have all grown up so much since then that it wasn’t working anymore. Much too childish for them.

So I set to work, installed shiplap from ceiling to floor, took out the old bar light fixture and painted everything my current favorite shade of white. You can see this magical transformation HERE.

Probably the most time-consuming, frustrating part of the entire process so far was the floors. I have painted and stenciled quite a few floors and tile by now but this was the toughest I’ve done.

Why?

Because getting a perfect stencil with no bleeding when you are doing black and white is NOT simple. After many tries and painting over bits I didn’t like and re-doing them – I finally found a process that worked not too badly and completed the floor.

LOVING it! You can find this step and the tricks that worked for me HERE.

And here is what I have now. As you can see I haven’t gotten much farther. I am loving this striped black-and-white Project 62 shower curtain from Target. I will link it for your convenience but this is not sponsored in any way.

Just in case you want a closer look. I know I do!

I am loving the simplicity of the black and white which also allows absolutely anything to be added in for decor and still looks classic.

I have a new sink faucet on order and am planning to make a frame for this mirror since it’s a perfectly good mirror and seems a shame to get rid of it. I just need to be able to get to a store where I can choose some wood for the frame!

I haven’t put the outlet and switch plate covers back on yet because I was wanting something a bit nicer than the white plastic ones I had but normally I would run to Hobby Lobby to look for those and I can’t right now. Might have to break down and place an order.

My Fleur De Lis TP holder is from Amazon and I love it. It looks vintage and is very well made and was pretty reasonably priced.

I am still LOVING my black and brass vintage style light fixture, also ordered through Amazon. It fits perfectly in this room.

What’s the next step? Glad you asked!

I still plan to:

  • Paint and stencil the backsplash tiles
  • Add some crown molding
  • Find some (preferably vintage) towel hooks for beside the sink and across from the toilet.
  • Find a rug for the floor
  • Put some hardware on the vanity
  • Frame the mirror
  • Find some vintage decor pieces including some sort of shelf for the wall behind the toilet to display items I already have
  • Replace the outlet and switch plate covers with something cute

I’ve probably forgotten something that I will end up doing in here but that’s the plan for now!

So far, even though it is pretty much naked right now, I’m loving it!

Emily’s Bathroom Decor Update

Lets pop over to Emily’s house and see how her kids bathroom is coming along. I think she was farther ahead of me when she had to stop shopping/thrifting so hers probably looks a lot more like a completed project!

Just click on the pic below.

Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me show you the kids bathroom! I had so much fun…

Until next time…
