Pinterest Challenge: Singing In The Rain

I’m so excited to be back with another monthly Pinterest challenge!

Yes! You read that correctly! Our host, Cindy, from County Road 407, has decided to make this a monthly occurrence and I’m so glad she did. It really helps to get the creative juices flowing when you’re up against a large group of very talented bloggers.

Or maybe I just like a challenge. ๐Ÿ˜€

If you missed our last challenges you can go look at February’s HERE and March’s HERE.

Now go grab a fresh cup of coffee and find a comfy spot to sit because we have all sorts of amazing blog posts for you to read. I will link them all at the end of this post.

As with all our challenges we have an inspiration photo and then we make something that fits our own style using some of the same basic elements.

If you are visiting from Art and Sand, wasn’t Carol’s version darling? I sure love the unexpected colors of the cheerful florals she used and how natural her arrangements always look.

Inspiration photo

As you can see it is a spring door “wreath” utilizing some form of a container and beautiful spring flowers/items.

I already had a wreath on my front door when I first received the inspiration photo but immediately knew I wanted something much different for this challenge and so I began digging through my craft closet looking for something to use as the “container”.

My design

It wasn’t long before I came across a sunny yellow umbrella that my momma had sent some time ago. It was perfect! What says spring more than an umbrella? Nothing much in these parts. We get a lot of rain in the springtime.

If you’ve been following me for long you’ve probably already discovered that I’m obsessed with white tulips this spring. Especially if you follow me on Instagram! Isn’t it funny how a certain color or theme can just speak to you each season and it changes from year to year? This year I can’t get enough white tulips!

And so I began with my yellow umbrella and some white tulips and came up with the rest as I went along. Here’s how:

First I trimmed off the strip that holds the umbrella closed. I didn’t want that hanging from my arrangement.

Then I grabbed some pretty black and white script ribbon and tied it around the umbrella loosely to keep it from opening any further and to dress it up.

Next I made a fluffy bow from the same ribbon and wired it onto the tie. I did not attach it permanently to the umbrella as I wanted to be able to determine it’s placement once I had the flowers inside.

I gathered up a handful of white tulips and arranged them in my hand so that they formed a pleasing, one sided bouquet in my hand. Then I put an elastic band around their stems to hold them like this.

Next for the filler. I started with a few pieces of these white feathery bits, placed randomly between the tulips.

It felt like I needed some greenery so I first played around with placing some of the tulip leaves randomly but didn’t like this look….

Faux boxwood was the perfect thing! I cut short lengths and tucked it in between the tulips here and there along with some more of the white sprigs.

All done! Now just to put it on my front door and “pretty up” that area a little.

It’s very simple but who says simple isn’t the best? I gave my door a coat of SW Rain, planted a lovely little fern in the urn by my door and layered some pretty rugs.

Are you ready to check out all the beautiful and creative arrangements the others have come up with? Let’s go!

Next up is Paula from Sweet Pea. I love her beautiful metal container and the white and green color scheme she used. I guess great minds think alike as far as colors this challenge, right? ๐Ÿ˜€
