Nature’s Palette – Late Summer Mantel Decor

It’s still burning hot where I live but there is no arguing that things are looking and feeling different outside. I’m not ready to start putting pumpkins everywhere all around my home – I can’t wrap my head around that when it’s over 100 degrees in the daytime still. I do however like to change things up a bit to fit in with what’s going on outside and this week Emily and I decided to share some late summer touches we have added to our homes.

Walking around your neighborhood is a good place to start. Observe how things look, the colors, the textures and what’s blooming or producing and what’s pretty much died off already. Use this as your palette…..

Whenever I change up my mantel I always start by removing everything and cleaning the wall and mantel. They get really dusty.

And then I start with my focal point. This canvas is actually part of Hobby Lobby’s Spring Shoppe but I happen to think it looks like fall. These flowers sure don’t bloom for me in the spring where I live!

And then you just fill in the mantel starting with your main pieces and then adding the fluff or in this case the branches of leaves from my maple tree.

I added a few faux berries to bring a little splash of color to my mantel and there are so many berries on bushes and trees outside right now.

I tucked some longer branches of berries in here and there and some I cut into short pieces and glued to branches.

You could use branches of faux leaves as well but I’m not ready for fall colored leaves yet and its hard to find branches of nice green leaves – at least where I looked. These will drop and dry up in a day or so but I don’t mind. It still looks nice and I can always replace them with fresh branches from my tree whenever I like.

I left my ribbon and braided yarn garlands on the mantel that I’ve had on all summer. I still like the look of them and will leave them until I’m ready to add full on fall touches.

The little lantern just gives me all the cozy feels….

It’s nothing difficult or expensive, just some simple changes to what I had before to give a bit more of a late summer vibe.

I hope this has inspired you to make a couple simple changes in your home using nature as your palette.

Until next time,
