Some of my favorite quotes come from the unlikeliest of sources. For instance:
“If I ever go looking for my hearts desire again, I won’t look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with.”
Any idea where that’s from?
I’ll give you a hint. It’s from a movie that was originally released in theaters in 1939 and was based on a novel written in 1900.
Another hint?
Okay.
It was eventually televised in 1956.

I don’t know too many people who don’t immediately think of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz when they see sparkly red shoes, myself included.
Confession time – I’ve never actually seen the entire movie through from start to finish! I know, right? But I have seen a lot of bits and pieces from it and believe it or not there are so many really amazing and thought provoking lines in that movie.
“I shall take the heart, for brains do not make one happy and happiness is the best thing in the world.”
What does this have to do with my post today and what do I have that might relate to The Wizard of Oz?

That’s right! Vintage sparkly red Dorothy shoes!
Another interesting fact is that in the 1900s novel Dorothy’s shoes were actually silver not “ruby” as they came to be known thanks to the movie.
Anyways these darling little Mondolfo girls dress shoes are treasures from my aunt who is one of the main “culprits” behind my obsession with vintage and antiques. She knows ever so much more about all that than I do and has amazing pieces that she has collected for longer than I’ve been alive.
A couple years ago she sent me these adorable vintage shoes for my youngest daughter to grow into. My daughter does currently fit them and has worn them several times for special occasions but I use them most often as part of my decor! 😄
Last February they made an appearance in some romantic pink and red themed decor for valentines.
They fit in perfectly at Christmas too and can always work as part of bedroom decor!
My aunt told me they were from the 1950’s and since The Wizard of Oz was televised in 1956 I’m thinking this was no coincidence and that these very shoes were quite possibly a part of the sudden explosion of red sparkly shoes on the market.
Don’t you just wonder who originally bought and loved them and imagined themselves tripping down the yellow brick road?

You are so kind and sweet, as always. Don’t you find that often it’s the kids movies that have some of the best lines in them? They go right over the kids heads a lot of times but wow!

I knew the Ruby Slippers as soon as I saw them! And I made myself a pair to wear to one of my high school reunions (thanks to “ruby” glitter paint and red silk ribbon bows). All these MANY years later, I still have (and cherish) them! I’ll have to remember to use them for decor … maybe for Valentine’s Day! Thanks everso for the memories you conjured up for me!!

So sweet… wearing your moms shoes! My grandmother had a thing for shoes, & even gave me a pair of heels she couldn’t wear anymore. I love pretty shoes!
I still have a major weakness for shoes and always notice peoples shoes. 😊
