French Vintage Friday: Pretty As A Picture

According to the clock on my computer screen it is still Friday, so I’m A-ok! There isn’t nearly as much Friday left today as there normally is when I write this weekly post but I’m clinging to the old adage “better late than never”!

I was struggling for ideas of what to share this week but it was also one of those days!

You know the kind.

The ones when you are running low on sleep or aren’t feeling well or both. Then everything that can go wrong does and you end up feeling like the main character in the child’s book “Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day”.

So now to focus on my blessings – I am very appreciative of the fresh cup of coffee in front of me and the treasures I am about to share with you today.

I’ve always had a thing for beautiful, ornate, vintage frames. It’s not easy to come by them in the area in which I live, or if I do, they cost about the same as a new car. A couple of times I’ve gotten incredibly lucky though and am now the proud owner of some amazing vintage frames.

This little mirror is a major favorite of mine. I love every detail.

This oversized frame was painted a very glossy black when I first spied it through the window of a local thrift shop. I went straight inside and over to where I had seen it and proceeded to lug it around the shop the rest of the time I was browsing for fear someone else would make off with it. I didn’t dare take my eyes off it.

I didn’t want to spend the next 5 years or so trying to remove the exceptionally awful gloss black paint all over the frame (it literally had drip marks like it had been dipped in a gloss black bath) so instead I decided to give it new life. Sometimes that’s better than trying to restore it’s old one.

Some chalk paint and some Rub ‘n’ Buff and a little bit of elbow grease and I was off to the races.

These 2 matching frames will never cease to be favorites no matter how many I eventually collect (fingers crossed). I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I discovered them. They too received a little paint, some distressing and some minor repairs including securing some new hooks to hang them by.

Whether they “hang out” together or are the single star of the show, they are amazing!

I can’t wait to find my next vintage frame.

Do you have any?
