French Vintage Friday: Electric Flat Iron

Yay! It’s Friday! I’m particularly anxious for this weekend because come next Monday I’m gonna be installing my wood floors upstairs!

Finally!

I’ve been waiting for this day for years now. I can’t wait to say goodbye to the last of the ugly old stained carpet!

Well, back to Friday and what we always do on Friday!

Until very recently I hadn’t set foot inside a thrift store or antique store since at least February! (I’m looking at you, Coronavirus). When I decided to stop by a thrift store I hadn’t ever been to before (no idea why since it’s really close to my house) I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I saw this!

At first I thought it was a type of sadiron but upon closer examination I saw the prongs that indicated some sort of electric connection.

The back reads:

American Beauty No 6 1/2 B

Made by American Electrical Heater Co

Detroit, USA

Patented May 19,1908; May 19, 1914; Feb 12, 1916

Volts 105-120. Watts 525

It came complete with its little rusty, crusty base plate.

It’s the perfect addition to the other vintage treasures I have on my open shelves in my laundry nook.
