Fall Leaf Art

I decided to take a break from installing my wood flooring this morning, to make a fall craft. I had all these leaves laying around from other projects and decided to see what I could come up with to make a piece of art.

I started by spray painting the leaves gold.

For the backer board that I needed to make the leaf project on, I used a sign that I bought at Dollar Tree.

I measured the back of the frame I planned to use and marked and cut the backer board to size.

Then I spray painted the backer board with chalk paint in Linen.

Here is the frame that inspired the whole project. I had found it a while back at a thrift store and it had nothing with it, not even the backing. I had originally thought to use it just as the empty frame but then – inspiration struck!

I lightly chalk painted the frame, leaving quite a bit of the underlying gold peeking through. Then I spray painted it with clearcoat in a matte finish.

After hot gluing the gold leaves onto the white backer board, I also hot glued the backer board onto the back of the frame and added another gold leaf on the frame itself.

Then of course came the most fun part of all of it! The reason for the entire project. Styling it in my bedroom.

Just a simple collection of pumpkins, candles and some vintage touches.

Oh! And I gave my dresser another makeover too. But that’s for another day…..

Thanks so much, Emily. You know your opinion means the world to me. I knew I could do something with that cute frame the minute I saw it in spite of it being minus anything but the frame itself and it worked perfectly for this.
