Bloggers Pinterest Challenge: Spring Tablescape

What started as a random idea, turned into so much fun that a lot of bloggers wanted to do it again. I am of course referring to the time that a group of 11 bloggers got together, took an inspiration photo from Pinterest and all did our own take on it for Valentine’s Day and then shared what we did.

This challenge is being hosted by Cindy from County Road 407.

For this challenge, we are taking our inspiration from Lisa.

Isn’t it darling? Lisa has a lovely account on Instagram over at A Simply Styled Nest. Go check out her account and give her a follow. There are a lot more inspiring photos where this one came from.

So for this challenge basically we are all creating some form of spring table centerpiece using a container of sorts and spring inspired items. That’s all as far as the rules.

First, I’d like to extend a special welcome to Carol’s friends, visiting from Art and Sand

Let’s get started!

This is Ms. Birdie. She is really the one who inspired this whole centerpiece. I was looking for something to be the focal point, thinking of spring creatures, lambs etc and she just called to me.

I’ve always loved birds but this spring for some reason they’ve really been appealing. Perhaps it’s the extra dose of late winter snows we got? The seemingly endless, dreary gray days without sun?

Regardless, she was the perfect thing and while waiting to put my centerpiece together, she has found many lovely homes all around my living room and kitchen!

The most difficult thing for me was the base container, to be honest. I was wanting something unusual and have looked everywhere within my small area with it’s limited options and have found nothing that really seemed to be the right thing.

In the end I got this beautiful wooden trough from Hobby Lobby.

I immediately fell in love with the rich tone of the wood, the rope handles on each end and the rustic, reclaimed look it has.

With a 40% off coupon it wasn’t a bad price either.

It’s large enough for when my table has its leaves in without being ridiculously dwarfed, yet allows room to eat at the table when it is at its smallest.

I purchased a basic nest complete with easter eggs. After removing those brightly colored eggs, I added some wildflowers and some small, pale green eggs that were a much better size for Ms. Birdie.

The final DIY was to paint some clay pots like I did for my spring mantel flower pots. I have a long way to go before I can master this like Emily over at Le Cultivateur, but practice makes perfect, right?

After that it was simply a matter of arranging the pots, nest, flowers and a little loose moss. I broke one of the pots (on purpose, I swear!) to nestle in here and there.

The final touch was perching Ms. Birdie on the top, proudly watching over her nest and eggs.

So far she is very happy here! She hasn’t tried to find a new home once, since I made this little home for her ๐Ÿ™‚

Honestly I think this is one of my favorite centerpieces ever.

I can think of so many things that I want to do now in terms of place settings to go with this centerpiece!

And I really want to have a little dinner party.

But I suppose that might frighten Ms. Birdie a little.

Now excuse me while I go open up my windows and then go dig around in my flowerbeds.

Now I would invite you to head over to visit Paula over at Sweet Pea to see her gorgeous spring centerpiece, also inspired from the same original photo.

I was beginning to wonder if I was just going to have a pile of pots and flowers in the middle of my table but luckily I finally found that trough! Hobby Lobby for the win!

  2. I absolutely love how you styled this! Swapping up the bunny for the bird is a great idea to span springtime even longer. Love the mass of clay pots with all the other springtime goodness. Beautiful job!

Thanks so much, Lora! I love little birds, particularly in the spring, so it just seemed like the perfect thing for my home. As you mentioned, I do spring decor as opposed to specifically easter as well so this definitely will be able to last me for a while before I need to change it out for something else. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I like how you used a bird instead of a rabbit in your centerpiece. I also like how you added flower pots. This is a centerpiece that you can enjoy long after Easter is over.

  6. I too love birds. Not real ones, just the fake ones. And I would have never thought to use empty pots! I just may have to steal that fun idea. That trough will come in handy for several centerpieces. It all turned out so pretty and springy! Thank you for joining us today.

    1. stilettosandshiplap says:

Steal away, my dear! Yes, I will get a lot of mileage out of the trough so I was quite happy with that find in the end. Thanks so much for organizing the challenge. It was so much fun again.

  12. Hello Tara! Sooo cute!!! I was just reading your bio and finding out about your kids and dogs. <3 For me, reading blogs is happy therapy and cheaper than other things, Lol!

This month's Pinterest Challenge was a lot of fun, wasn't it? I am amazed at how different all of our centerpieces turned out, but also similar. Love your sweet birdie and I'm glad you found a dough bowl/box! I saw some really amazing ones at High Point Market a year+ ago but knew it wouldn't get home safely in my suitcase. Still looking for one!

Happy spring to you and I'm sorry I didn't get over here on Monday. My MIL and I were a few hours from home and I was on a photography shoot for four days (Odd Fellows and Rebekahs State Assembly, Texas). Just getting back to finish up here on Wednesday evening. Pinned a couple of photos for you. <3

    Hugs,

    Happy Spring!

The little birds just seem to be the essence of spring, donโ€™t they? For some reason pots, especially chippy, weathered looking ones, are really speaking my language this year as well. Glad you liked it ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. I’m so happy to be in this challenge with you! I love your centerpiece, especially the sweet bird, speckled eggs, and the flower pots! Great job! ๐Ÿ™‚
