Thrift Store Challenge: Soups On

I’m so excited that it’s that time of the month again!

NO! Not THAT time of the month…..THAT time of the month.

Time for the Thrift Store Challenge! I got a sneak peek at some of the wonderful projects our other participants have been working on for this go around and all I can say is – y’all are in for a treat!

The Rules

So it’s pretty straight forward but we all up to a few things from a single source, typically a thrift store but it could be a garage sale, estate sale, vintage market etc. so long as the item(s) are not new. We have no set budget but try to keep it as budget friendly as possible. Then we show you what we did to it to make it work in our homes including styling it. That’s it!

Are you ready?

My Find

I was super late even going looking for something this month. Like literally I just got back from a quick trip to Goodwill. I hate leaving it to the last second in case I can’t find anything worth buying (not typically a problem for me) but also because it gives me no time to work on the item and do whatever to it that I might need to do.

Thanks to our upcoming move most of my crafty things are packed though (insert gasp and sob here) so I pretty much knew I was going to need to find something that really needed just some styling this month. That always makes it a bit trickier because I pretty much always fix things up at least a bit.

I wasn’t doing so well and was nearly ready to start a second pass through the store when I saw it!

Not only was it just $12.99 to start with but it was 50% today! Yup!

I absolutely love the shape of it with all the extra little frills and “ruffles” and of course you can’t go wrong with a basic white. What’s more, there is not a chip or mark or crack anywhere to be found!

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it and it has NOTHING at all to do with food. Some things never change. Haha ๐Ÿ˜€

Styling My Find

Clearly since it IS a dish it makes sense to display this in the dining room, right? I thought so!

Voila! All done!

Now I can go take a bubble bath and maybe have a coffee and some ginger snaps.

Don’t you love how I spent so much time on this challenge this month? I mean hours and hours! I’m exhausted. I should book a massage.

Okay fine! I went ahead and added some lavender. I would have preferred to use fresh lavender because….FRESH but mine would have been completely gone if I had harvested that much this early in the season and I couldn’t find any of the english lavender today which is by far my preference. Luckily I keep some faux lavender on hand for just such an occasion!

Now please try and focus on the soup tureen and my lavender and not on the fact that I don’t have pulls on the lower drawers of this buffet yet. I know you’re jealous of that fact and are already planning on taking some of the pulls off your furniture to copy me. I’m trying to start a new trend.

Isn’t this cute just like this?

It’s so pretty that it makes everything look good.

But I can’t resist adding just a few extra touches here and there…..

I’m on a roll now….

This! This right here is what I love. Simple and elegant and natural.

And less than $7.

I will admit that I have styled dishes like this in random ways before, unrelated to food. However to give full credit where it is due, one of my favorites on IG, Becky Cunningham, has styled a tureen similarly and it was just so cute with the lavender specifically.
