5 On Friday: Vintage Love

I am ridiculously excited to be back behind my computer screen again, preparing a blog post to share with y’all. It’s been WAY too long. I know I recently shared some of the reasons for that but there have been some additional illnesses and events that have occurred that have also kept me from doing the things I love to do and sharing them with you. I’ve missed y’all and I’m so glad to be back.

To get back into the swing of things, Emily from Le Cultivateur and I have prepared another one of our 5 On Friday posts for you. This time we thought you might like to delve into the fascinating world of vintage with us. Now Emily has a much more amazing collection of vintage treasures than I do…..yet…..but whether your collection is large or small, you can make a little go a long ways by tastefully styling it.

Here are some of my favorites.

Vintage Books

It’s no secret by now that I have a thing for pretty much all books but especially vintage books when it comes to decor.

I stacked up some chalk painted ones on my mantle on our Valentine Challenge post.

Here I used them to style my deconstructed chair.

Allowing a plant to trail all over them adds interest in a bookcase.

Piled up here and there and everywhere. Sometimes where you would expect them and sometimes not. Add some wooden beads for interest or maybe a nice blossom or two.

There really is no wrong way to use vintage books, in my personal opinion.

Vintage Canning Jars

Another favorite of mine which you will often see in use for bouquets around my home, inside and out, for both live and faux florals.

Sometimes empty just to make a statement.

But most of the time holding something beautiful.

I grab these much more often than a vase.

Vintage Candy Dish

Y’all have seen this little white candy dish so many times all over my home. I use it so much. I love it’s little shape and its ruffly little edge. I’ve put little white and red glittery balls in it for Christmas here….

And then I’ve put some lovely spicy smelling potpourri in it on this little mirrored shelf.

For a little while it was upstairs in one of the bedrooms with this cuddly teddy bear.

Next thing you know here it is with an orb of greenery inside of it looking as lovely as can be! Talk about versatile! Did I mention it’s a candy dish? I suppose a person could always put candy in it too!

Now let’s get a little more unusual….

Vintage Shoes

Yes, you heard me correctly. I said shoes. My aunt recently sent these for my daughter but until she grows into them why can’t I use them for some valentine inspired decor? They are real shoes from the 1950’s and are in pristine condition. Here is an idea of how you can display them. They’d look so cute on a dresser with a vintage dress or maybe a vintage purse or hat too! Just saying…..

Vintage Oil Cans

Yup! If you’ve followed me for long or seen my Instagram feed you may already have seen my oil can treasures!

Aren’t they the cutest? I got them this past summer from a dear friend who was dealing with her parent’s estate and they are extra special to me. Yes, that’s another vintage canning jar you are seeing there as well.

Here they are again and yup! Busted! Another vintage canning jar! See?

I hope this has given you a lot of ideas on how to use some simple vintage items around your home in many practical ways. You don’t have to have an expensive vintage collection of rare items and a huge home to display them in.

I don’t.

I love every piece I have though.
